Inside the Rebellion: A Podcast Conversation on Methane Mitigation and Innovation

In a world where sustainability and innovation increasingly intersect, Rebellion Energy Solutions is forging a bold path in environmental restoration. Recently, our CEO Staci Taruscio, joined Differential Podcast to discuss her journey, the challenges of entrepreneurship, and Rebellion’s mission to turn environmental hazards into impactful solutions.

A Transformative Mission
Rebellion Energy Solutions is tackling the outsized threat posed by unplugged orphan oil and gas wells. These wells leak methane — a greenhouse gas 80 times more potent than CO₂ over 20 years — contributing significantly to climate change. The scale of this challenge is staggering, with more than 120,000 documented orphan wells in the United States and an estimated eight times more undocumented.

Rebellion addresses this challenge by plugging these wells and issuing methane-abatement credits through the American Carbon Registry’s rigorous methodology. These credits help fund well-plugging projects while ensuring measurable and permanent environmental impact.

Pioneering High-Integrity Carbon Markets
During her interview, Staci emphasizes the importance of integrity in the voluntary carbon market. She highlights how Rebellion’s credits stand out due to transparency, robust measurement protocols and third-party verification. Projects like Rebellion’s not only meet the highest standards but also align with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including climate action and land restoration.

To date, Rebellion has issued more than 2 million metric tonnes of carbon credits, demonstrating the scalability and efficacy of its approach. Each credit represents real methane emissions reductions and broader environmental co-benefits, such as biodiversity restoration and improved property values.

Leading with Data and Expertise
Staci also shares how Rebellion uses cutting-edge technology and data-driven processes to maximize impact. Advanced tools like GIS mapping and field-based methane monitoring enable Rebellion to identify high-priority wells and tailor solutions to community needs. By focusing on precision and accountability, the company ensures its projects deliver lasting value for both the planet and its partners.

The Bigger Picture
For Staci and the Rebellion team, plugging orphan wells is about more than abating methane — it’s about creating a sustainable future. Each project embodies the company’s mission to integrate energy, environment and markets – proving that economic growth and environmental restoration can go hand in hand
