A Year of Firsts: Reflecting on 2024 with Rebellion Energy Solutions

by Staci Taruscio, CEO

As we look back at 2024, I’m filled with pride and gratitude for the milestones Rebellion Energy Solutions has achieved. It has truly been “a year of firsts,” where innovation and dedication converged to create measurable impacts in the fight against climate change.

2024 marked the issuance of our first carbon credits by the American Carbon Registry (ACR) for emissions abated by plugging orphan wells. These wells, often forgotten and neglected, represent a significant environmental liability, leaking methane and other harmful gases into the atmosphere. By safely addressing these wells, we’ve turned a legacy problem into an opportunity to drive meaningful climate action.

Our efforts received significant recognition when our initial methane-abatement project earned an “A” rating from BeZero Carbon, an independent global carbon-credits ratings agency. This rating places our project in the top 6% of more than 430 projects BeZero has rated worldwide. Such accolades don’t just validate our work; they bring awareness to the broader potential of carbon abatement projects like ours. This global recognition positions Rebellion Energy Solutions as a leader in scalable, impactful climate solutions.

Another significant milestone was our second carbon credit issuance, with almost 2 million metric tons of CO₂e. This scale demonstrates that orphan well projects aren’t just isolated success stories – they’re part of a consistent, replicable solution to reducing emissions.

Beyond technical achievements, we also engaged in a comprehensive dialogue with market stakeholders, including validation and verification bodies, ratings agencies, and carbon credit buyers. Their questions about our methods – how we measure emissions, prioritize wells and work with state and local agencies – provided an invaluable platform to highlight the integrity of our projects. We welcome these dialogues, as they enhance transparency and help set new standards for the industry.

One of the most exciting “firsts” last year was establishing a value marker for orphan well projects. By successfully completing project sales and defining structures that work for all parties involved, we’ve laid the groundwork for a forward-looking market that drives real environmental benefits while ensuring financial viability.

When I reflect on these milestones, I see more than just accomplishments. I see a company that’s proving scalable solutions are not just aspirational but achievable. I see a team that’s redefining what’s possible in the energy transition. And I see partnerships – both existing and emerging – that will help us expand our impact even further.

To everyone who has been part of this journey, thank you. Together, we’ve made 2024 a year to remember. And as we look toward the future, I know the best is yet to come.

Here’s to building a sustainable future – one first at a time.
